WE HAVE FOUND THAT WE UPDATE OUR SCHEDULE TOO OFTEN TO KEEP THIS SECTION OF THE WEBSITE CURRENT. HOWEVER, WE KEEP THIS PAGE UP SO THAT YOU CAN REVIEW A TYPICAL BOYS STATE SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK. PLEASE REFER TO THE PROGRAM BOOK FOR A MORE ACCURATE DAILY SCHEDULE. THIS PAGE IS FROM THE 2011 PROGRAM.
SATURDAY, June 11, 2011 – REGISTRATION DAY
9:30 am • REGISTRATION
Parking Area L4 – Duffy Lot (Rain Location: Hemingway Theatre) Boys’ Staters should check in with their counselors to receive keys. Boys are to unpack, change into a Boys’ State shirt, fill out the poll, review this manual and Gen Ed #1 (§2-21).
11:45 am – 12:15 pm • LUNCH
Lunch will be picked up in the Hemingway Theatre and eaten in the municipal meeting rooms; locations are listed on p. 56. Boys’ State shirts and ID Cards are required. Each boy should bring to lunch his program book, a pad of paper and a pencil or pen.
12:15 – 1:15 pm • PRELIMINARY MUNICIPAL MEETINGS
Locations listed on p. 56. Review of Boys’ State Rules (§1-4), program schedule (pp. 27-34), campus locations (p. 59), and seating in Ames Center, Roche Dining Commons A, and Hemingway Theatre (p. 57). Each community will select 2 election officials (1 from each party). Note that elections cannot be held without election officials. As the group responsible for all nomination papers and ballots, election officials may not run for office, but may later be appointed to other offices. Counselors will collect the Boys’ State Issues Poll. Discussion topic – Gen Ed #1 (§2-21).
1:30 – 2:45 pm • GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Roche Dining Commons A. Welcome from the Boys’ State Committee. Explanation of Athletics by Mr. Terry, Elections by Mr. Jackson, and Mini-Courses by Mr. Smith. Organization of Boys’ State Band and organization of Boys’ State Newspaper announced. Introduction to parliamentary procedure (§1-6). Cities and towns will hand in their responses to Gen Ed #1. Recitation of the Boys’ State Pledge. Presentation regarding Boys’ State Judiciary by Mr. Recupero.
2:45 – 3:45 pm • GENERAL EDUCATION
Roche Dining Commons A. Mr. DiCara will introduce state issues (§2-18) and discuss the decision making process. Distribution of municipal nomination papers. Note: Boys’ Staters can only run for one office at each level.
3:45 pm – Meeting of election officials with Mr. Jackson. All others should remain at Roche Dining Commons A for the Boys State video.
4:30 pm – Catholic Mass in the Chapel of Mary
Protestant Prayer Service in Hemingway Theatre
5:00 – 5:50 pm • DINNER (§2-16)

6:15 – 7:30 pm • MUNICIPAL MEETINGS
Appointment of Temporary Clerk who should tabulate the Boys’ State Poll and have it ready for Mr. Jacques by Sunday breakfast. Explanation of municipal offices (§§2-5 – 2-7). Each city and town will review its scenario (§2-8), and the role of zoning (§2-19).
7:45 – 8:15 pm • PARTY CAUCUS
Each municipality will divide into a Federalist and a Nationalist caucus. Each caucus will choose one state committeeman. On Sunday, each state committee will meet at breakfast to choose a party chairman and other party leaders.
8:30 pm • COUNTY ATHLETIC ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
Each county will select its athletic representatives and organize its teams. Each county will also select a High School Bowl Captain. County Meeting room locations are listed on p. 56.
9:15 pm • MUNICIPAL MEETINGS
Cities and towns will meet in their dormitories to discuss Gen Ed #2 (§2-22). Each city & town shall submit a written report at breakfast.
10:30 pm • LIGHTS OUT
All Boys’ Staters must be in their rooms, with the lights out, and accounted for at this time. Counselors will conduct room checks.
