The Boys State College Fair
The Boys State college fair is an annual event, where several dozen colleges and universities from all over the Northeast offer students the opportunity to talk with admissions officers and get the find out information on schools to which you may be thinking of applying. In addition to many of the schools you may have already identified on your “target list,” you may also find that hidden gem of a school you had not yet considered.
Before attending the Boys State College Fair, you may want to meet with your high school counselor to discuss the schools with whom you want to meet and speak.
Before you set out, it will help to consider what you want from a college. Write down college characteristics that are important to you. Review websites and catalogs of colleges on your list and write down questions that aren’t answered in the materials. You should also ask questions about your own interests, such as activities you’d like to pursue and course requirements for the majors in which you’re interested.
You should bring a pen and small notebook, your questions, and a bag to hold all the college brochures and information you’ll get.
Booths with approximately 50 colleges and university will be set up around the Stonehill gymnasium, so you can walk at your own pace around to each school in turn and speak with each admissions representative in a casual setting. Pick up brochures. Write down names. The more information you can take with you, the better armed you will be when the you prepare to fill out applications to your chosen schools.
