T2 Municipal Scenario Discussion

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

Citizens of MA Boys State are organized into municipalities.  Throughout the week, the citizens of each Boys State city and town must work together to solve their assigned municipal scenario- a problem or sequence of multiple problems that are modeled after real-life issues which actual municipal governments may face in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  Municipal scenarios impact the budget, zoning, voting, and organizational decisions that each Boys State municipality must make.

T2′s issue: a major, state-wide drought has negatively impacted the agricultural industry of the town.  As a rural, low income community, the town leadership must decide how to get much needed irrigation water to 3 major farms before the farmers sell their land to a major industrial corporation.  Citizens fear that by selling the farm land, the industrial corporation may commercialize the small town, which is known for its historic character and charm.
